Denmark
We started early in the morning (as always) and flew to Denmark, Copenhagan for our first stop. Copenhagan was really nice and we started out by doing a 3hr walking tour around the capital which took us to all of the
major sights through the city. Now Copenhagan is actually not that big however it is really pretty. One of the first things we did was go up the Round Tower which is named as such for obvious reasons. We had a really nice look out over the city which is pretty much flat all over and could view out to the sea. We then headed down and walked amongst the streets decorated with Christmas lig
hts, walked through some of the local parks the fortress and came across the Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is a really famous statue it is quite pretty but I’m not sure it deserves all the fuss over it. One of the co
olest things we saw was a huge ice skating rink that was more like a ice road and covered most of the central plaza of the city. They also had some Christmas markets but they were not as good as the ones we saw in Austria last year. We went to see the palace which is really impressive it’s also very different to others I have seen as you stand in the middle of a square and there are 4 buildings on each corner which are part of the palace. We did not see Princess Mary though.

That took up the morning and for the afternoon we were deciding between going to the National Museum or Christianshavn which is a hippie community and sort of functions as a city within a city. Since it was cold and raining we chose the museum. It was actually one of the best museums I have ever been to and really surprised us. They had some fantastic artifacts that had been really well preserved and interesting displayed on the history and culture of Denmark and how they came to exist as they are today. The museum also use to be a royal palace at one stage so some of the rooms have been left intact as well.

After Denmark we flew to Berlin. We ar
rived at Berlin late at night but the next day we headed out to explore the city we started at the main station and then walked past Plaz der Republik, the Reichstag, Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate, we then went to the Jewish memorial we headed to Check Point Charlie and saw w
hat is left of the Berlin Wall. We then headed back up to Potsdamer Platz and wa
lked around the Christmas markets which are the best that we have ever seen. The Germans really know how to put on a Christmas market! We then headed up to Alexander platz which had even more Christmas markets and was really interesting too. We walked around the markets and went of the large ferries wheel and a few other rides which was fun.The next day 
we headed to Lutherst Wittenberg which is about an
hour out of Berlin. It is where Martin Luther started the reformation of the catholic church for those who are religious. It was really interesting and the town is really pretty. We went to the seminary and his home and the church where he pinned his theses on the church doors. For lunch we had a traditional stew for lunch and enjoyed walking around the museum and the town for the day before heading back to Berlin. That we headed back into the city and did a bit of looking around the Christmas markets again as we didn’t finish them all the day before and went up the TV tower and looked out over the city which was really nice.

re we headed out to the airport to fly to Frankfurt so we decided to go to the Berlin zoo and have a look around. We had a fantastic half day going around the zoo looking at all of the animals. The ape house was fantastic and so was the aquarium it was lots of fun. The hippopotamus were really good there were 5 hippos and a baby and we had lunch watching the seals play with a stick. After lunch we headed to the airport and flew to Frankfurt. 
Our first day in Frankfurt 
was the Christmas day and as such we did nothing accept eating, sleeping, reading and watching movies in German.

So we went to a movie and found one in English actually we found a whole cinema which had only movies in English which was quite good we saw Inkheart as it was the best thing on and it was quite a good movie.

ne which was the whole point of going to Frankfurt. I was quite excited to go on the tour however it was a bit disappointing. The valley was really nice however it d
idn’t seem to live up to it expectations. The castles were pretty amazing and there were defiantly a lot we had a nice traditional lunch in a very crazy pub which décor was well it’s hard to describe really awful is probably a good description. We went for a cruise along the river and for a wine tasting afterwards were we tried the ice wine the region is famous for.

The next day we were off on the train to Prague. We had a few hiccups on the way. Apparently the swapped the train on us so our seats didn
’t exist. Then because they had changed the train it was going to not meet up with our next train. So we ended up getting upgraded to a first class cabin and sitting and talking to a nice train worker who wanted to practice his English. We had to wait a few hours before we could get a new connection to Prague from Dresden so got to have a look around the town as well which was a nice bonus in our trip.
Prague was freezin
g about -10oC. We got up the first day and went out to explore Petrin Park and get a view over the city. We decided to climb the hill instead of taking the monorail as we had time and we thought it might warm us up a bit. The view from the top was fantastic and we got to p
lay in the little bit of snow that was around. We then slowly made our way to the castle past the Strchov Monastery and managed to get there just in time for the changing of the guard. That was fun to watch although a little cold. We walked around the castle which was amazing and worth the visit and then down into town where we had an early traditional lunch mainly to warm up!! We then spent the rest of the day exploring the city visiting the main square, the astronomical clock, the main square, Jewish qua
ter etc, etc.
The next day after wandering around a bit more to do the things we hadn’t seen we were at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Prague is nice but it was not exactly the fantastic place we had read about. We actually found it pretty boring and were struggling to find things to do. We found a Ghost Tour which takes you around the Old Town at night so we went on that which was quite fun. Not very scary but they told us some fun ghost stories and facts about Prague.
The next day we went to the Communist Museum which was really interesting as it displayed life in Prague under the communist regime
We were going to go out into town on New Years Eve however the night before we had been warned that this was a bad idea. Apparently people let fireworks off everywhere and people get hurt so it was suggested non locals don’t go. We hung out in the city and watched a bit of the celebrations however took the advice and went back to our hostel. We ended up watching the fireworks from our room in the end which was really nice.

New Years day we got an early train from Prague to Budapest. I 
am assuming because it was early new years day we had a cabin to ourselves for the whole 8 hour trip and spread out and had a lovely ti
me watching the countryside change as we moved through the Czech Republic, Slovakia into Hungry. We arrived in the early evening and it was snowing!! The first time that we had seen it snow on our trip so we dumped our stuff and had a long walk along the Danbue which we actually got to see this time and had a lovely cold evening.
The next day we went for a walking tour of Budapest, it was really good and we got to find out a lot more about the city, we started over on the Buda side and worked our way over to Pest. We saw the King Stephen’s mummified right hand at St. Stephen's Basilica, the castle, parliament and other sites.
The following
day we climbed …. Hill which overlooks the city, it was a great view from the top and we headed down the other side to the local markets were we had a great lunch with the locals. We had to eat quickly though as we were eating undercover but it is in a market shed and not heated so the food got cold really quickly.
After lunch we went over to the …. Park, we didn’t go in the thermal pools mainly because after doing it
in New Zealand we didn’t think it would compare. But we had a look around the park and went zooming around on a patch of frozen water and saw the largest ice rink I have ever seen and generally had fun running around.
We left on the Sunday to come back to London expecting it to be warm. It wasn’t.
