Hampton Court Palace is located next to the Thames River about 1hr train ride from our flat in Golders Green. Your first thought as you walk down the long driveway is how plain the palace looks for such an important and historic place. Once inside however the palace you can’t help but be impressed by its magnificence.

itchens were great - they had real cooks cooking traditional meals from the Tudor times however we didn’t get to taste anything unfortunately but they had huge fires going which we stood next to and warmed ourselves up. After finding out that they had to cook for way to many people 600 a day 2 meals each (that is a lot of food) we went off in search of the great hall it was served in. Well there are actually 2 halls which I though was interesting the main large hall which was very fancy and had tapestries on all the walls which gold and silver threads woven throughout (which you can still see shinning away) there was another hall for the more important people just as nicely decorated.
We then moved onto the Kings apartments, Queens’ apartments and other parts of the palace. It was interesting to learned that people had lived in the palace right up until the 1970’s there is a section of the palace which as been altered with running water, electricity and there are name pointing to the flat where they lived.
The gardens were fantastic they had just finished restoring one of the gardens to how it would have been in King George II time it was really nice they also had a display how the gardens had changed over the years and it was great to see what was different and what had remained the same. They also had the maze which is meant to be the oldest in the world which we managed to get to the middle of quite easily thanks to Scott.
I think the thing that made Hampton Court so good was apart from the way everything was so well preserved we had an audio tour that told us heaps of information about the palace and what went on. So we could go about together and see what we wanted when we wanted.
Hampton Court is defiantly a place that we would go back to and was the best palace we had visited so far.
