Stockholm

We went to stockholm with our friends Josh and Steph. It was nice to go travelling with friends as we don't do it that often. It was also really good to get out of London for the weekend.

We flew into stockholm late friday night and made it to our accomodation very on Saturday morning. We thought we would be a bit adventurous with our accomodation and decided to stay on a moored boat. It turned out not such a good idea, but that's a story for another time and would probably take to long to write about now.

On Saturday we went to a museum called The Vasa Museum. Basically they found a 330 year old wooden sailing ship at the bottom of the bay in stockholm perfectly preserved. Supposedly this ship was meant to be the kings ship and the star of the fleet. However when the put her in the water for the first time she barely made it to the middle of the bay before overturning as it didn't have enough balast in the hold. Opps! But it does mean that we get to see a amazing old wooden ship.

After finding a really cute cafe for lunch we headed to the old town to explore. The old town is on a small island in the centre of stokholm. We started our walking tour and happen to arrive at the palace right when they where doing the changing of the guards. It was the worst changing of the guards that I have seen. But on from that we had a great time exploring the area eating cake and drinking coffees.

That night we went to the apsolute ice bar which was heaps of fun and hung out for our alloted time before heading back to a local pub we found one that served traditional food and beer. One of the traditioal dishes is meatballs and they are great. So we spent the rest of the night talking away in the pub.

The next day we had to leave mid afternoon to catch our flight. So we took ourselves off somewhere where you can see the whole of Sweden in one place. Or at least that is how they sell it. It was called Skansen and was heaps of fun. We got to look at local crafts, eat traditional foods and look at all the animals native to sweden. We even got to see reindeer and an elk (which I never realised was another name for a moose - yes I am ashamed to admit that). We got very up close and pesonal with some beautiful owls, a cute red squrill and a very bossy peacock. We ate more meatballs for lunch before heading back to the airport for our flight home. All-in-all a great weekend of eating and relaxing with friends.
